he BSc (Hons) Psychology with Counselling programme offers a comprehensive exploration of the human mind, behaviour, and emotional wellbeing, alongside the core principles of counselling practice. Students develop a strong grounding in key areas of psychology, including cognitive, developmental, social, and biological psychology, while learning how psychological theories are applied in therapeutic and support settings.
The course places a strong emphasis on ethical practice, communication skills, empathy, and self-awareness, all essential for working effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds. Through case studies, practical workshops, and reflective learning, students gain insight into counselling approaches such as person-centred, cognitive-behavioural, and integrative methods.
Alongside academic study, students build highly valued transferable skills, including active listening, critical thinking, research methods, problem-solving, teamwork, and professional communication. These skills prepare graduates to work confidently in real-world environments and adapt to a range of professional roles.
Graduates are well-prepared for careers in mental health support, counselling services, social care, youth work, community services, and wellbeing organisations, or for progression to postgraduate study and professional counselling or psychology training.
