Assessment

The HND Health and Social Care course prepares students for professional roles within the health, social care, and support sectors. The programme combines academic study with practical knowledge to develop the skills needed to support individuals, families, and communities in a variety of care settings.

Students gain an understanding of health and social care practices, safeguarding, equality and diversity, communication, and person-centred care. The course is designed to reflect real-world working environments and employer expectations.

Entry Requirements

Applicants must be 18 years or older and meet one of the following criteria:

  • A Level 3 qualification, such as A-Levels (at least one pass) or a BTEC National/Extended Diploma in Business or a related subject

  • An Access to Higher Education Certificate from a recognised institution (accepted in place of A-Levels)

  • Other relevant Level 3 qualifications or equivalent international qualification

Mature applicants (21+)

Applicants aged 21 and over may be considered without standard academic qualifications if they can demonstrate course commitment and 2 years of work experience, not necessarily related to the course.

All applicants must:

  • Pass an academic interview.

  • Demonstrate English language proficiency or complete an English assessment on campus

Assessment of HND programmes is continuous and practical rather than based on a single final exam. Typical assessment methods include:

  • Written reports and essays

  • Class presentations

  • Project work and case studies

  • Group assignments

  • Portfolios and reflective journals

  • In-class activities and practical tasks
