HND Construction And Bulding

The HND Construction and Building programme is ideal for students who want to develop practical skills and a solid understanding of the construction industry. It prepares learners for employment or further study within the built environment sector.

Overview

Assessment

This course provides a strong foundation in construction principles, building technology, and site operations. Students study essential topics such as construction methods, building materials, health and safety, project planning, and sustainability.

Learning is focused on real industry practice, helping students understand how construction projects operate from early planning through to completion. The programme encourages teamwork, problem-solving, and effective communication, all of which are essential skills on construction sites and within project teams.

On completion, students may progress into entry-level roles within construction and building or continue their studies onto a related bachelor’s degree such as Construction Management or Building Surveying.

Entry Requirements

Applicants must be 18 years or older and meet one of the following criteria:

  • Level 3 qualification, such as A-Levels (at least one pass) or a BTEC National/Extended Diploma in Business or a related subject

  • An Access to Higher Education Certificate from a recognised institution (accepted in place of A-Levels)

  • Other relevant Level 3 qualifications or equivalent international qualification

Mature applicants (21+)

Applicants aged 21 and over may be considered without standard academic qualifications if they can demonstrate engagement with the course.

All applicants must:

  • Pass an academic interview

  • Demonstrate English language proficiency or complete an English assessment on campus

Assessment of Bachelor programmes is continuous and practical rather than based on a single final exam. Typical assessment methods include:

  • Written reports and essays

  • Class presentations

  • Project work and case studies

  • Group assignments

  • Portfolios and reflective journals

  • In-class activities and practical tasks

This course is structured around units or modules, where students are assessed as they complete each topic — often through a combination of assignments and project work rather than only exams.
